Preparation for 3 servings:
Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Rava (Sooji/Semolina)
  • 5 tbsp Ghee (Clarified Butter)
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 Cumin Seeds
  • 1 tbsp Chana Dal (optional)
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida
  • 8-9 Curry Leaves
  • 2 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 Green Chilli, chopped
  • 1/4 cup Raosted Peanuts
  • Some finely chopped Coriander Leaves (optional)
  • 1 tbsp Lemon juice
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 cups Water
  • Heat 2 tbsp ghee in a kadai and Add Sooji in it. Roast it on low flame for 4-5 minutes. Keep stirring continuously and once done, transfer to a plate. 
  • Heat 3 tbsp ghee in same kadai and Add mustard seeds,cumin seeds, chana dal, asafoetida and curry leaves. Cook until dals turn light brown.
  • Add chopped onion and green chillies and sauté for 1-2 minutes until onion becomes translucent. Add roasted peanuts.
  • Add roasted Sooji and 2 cups of water and Stir continuously for 1-2 minutes to avoid lumps. now squeeze 1 lemon and mix it well. Upma is ready to serve garnish with some coriander leaves.
